Six months on, Snappi Fintech & AI Lab turns academic collaboration into financial innovation

Six months after launching the Snappi Fintech & AI Lab, Snappi brought together leading academics, researchers, industry experts and fintech professionals at the Snappi Fintech & AI Lab Summit 2026, demonstrating how collaboration between academia and industry can turn cutting-edge research into practical solutions for financial services.

Held at the Snappi Hub in Athens, the Summit marked an important milestone in the Lab’s development from an idea into a growing academic and innovation network connecting research with real-world banking challenges.

Launched in March 2026, the Snappi Fintech & AI Lab was established to bridge academic research and industry practice and accelerate innovation across digital banking, fintech and artificial intelligence. Since then, Snappi has expanded its collaborations with universities, researchers and academic institutions across Greece, with a shared ambition to translate knowledge into solutions that can contribute to improving customers’ financial lives.

The Summit explored some of the most significant questions shaping the future of financial services, including  the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI in credit risk management, responsible lending, financial literacy and consumer financial capability, generative AI applications in banking, digital identity, cybercrime prevention and financial inclusion.

“Six months ago, we launched the Snappi Fintech & AI Lab with a clear vision: to create a platform where academia and business could work together to shape the future of banking,” said Gabriella Kindert, CEO of Snappi. “Today, we are proud to see that vision materialising through meaningful collaborations with some of Greece’s leading academic institutions. The Summit demonstrates what becomes possible when academic excellence, technology and real business challenges come together. Our ambition is to turn that knowledge into responsible innovation that creates measurable value for customers and contributes to the wider financial ecosystem.”

The Lab’s work extends beyond research partnerships. Students, researchers and faculty members are engaging directly with real-world banking challenges through collaborative research, guest lectures, mentoring, internships, hackathons and other innovation initiatives. In doing so, Snappi aims to strengthen the connection between education, research and the evolving needs of an increasingly digital and AI-driven economy.

George Tsomidis, Senior Advisor to the Snappi Fintech & AI Lab, added: “The value of the Lab will ultimately be measured not by the number of partnerships we create, but by what comes out of them. We want to take the best thinking from academia, combine it with real customer needs and banking challenges, and turn it into solutions that can be tested and applied in practice. The Summit gives us an opportunity to bring these different perspectives into one room and explore where research can make a meaningful contribution — from financial resilience and responsible lending to the way AI may shape the future of everyday banking.”

Six months into its journey, the Snappi Fintech & AI Lab continues to build an ecosystem where research, talent and real-world banking experience meet, with the aim of developing practical solutions for the next generation of financial services.
